"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!"
— 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV)
People who search bible verses about new creation want Scripture on kainē ktisis — the new creature in Christ of 2 Corinthians 5 — not only the broader eternal life list or the renewal list alone. This page is a numbered list of twelve passages with the NIV text and a short note on each. Related lists: Bible verses about eternal life, Bible verses about salvation, Bible verses about renewal, Bible verses about faith, Bible verses about Jesus, and Bible verse of the day. New creation here means kainē ktisis — the old gone and the new present in Christ — distinct from a generic renewal of mind list or from eternal-life promises that do not center the new-creature claim.
Word study (lead theme). In Greek, "new" is καινός kainos (Strong's G2537; Bible Hub G2537) — new in kind, fresh. "Creation / creature" is κτίσις ktisis (Strong's G2937; Bible Hub G2937) — creation, what is created. Together, kainē ktisis is a new created reality in Christ — not a polish on the old self. Paul ties it to being "in Christ"; John and Ezekiel speak of new birth and a new heart. New creation in Scripture is union with Christ — not self-reinvention.
Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary on 2 Corinthians 5 presses that those in Christ are new creatures, and that the old things pass away as the new take their place (Bible Hub MHC 2 Corinthians 5; Blue Letter Bible, Matthew Henry on 2 Corinthians 5). (Eternal-life and renewal lists live on those pages; this list centers kainē ktisis.)
What does it mean to be a new creation?
2 Corinthians 5:17 says, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" To be a new creation is to be in Christ. The old way of life is no longer the center. Galatians 6:15 says, "Neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything; what counts is the new creation." What counts is that God has made the person new.
A new creation includes a new heart. Ezekiel 36:26 says, "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh." It also includes a new way of living. Romans 6:4 says, "We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life."
The promise reaches past one life. Revelation 21:5 says, "He who was seated on the throne said, 'I am making everything new!' Then he said, 'Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.'" Isaiah 65:17 says, "See, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind." Being made new in Christ belongs to that larger new creation.

Questions people ask
What does 2 Corinthians 5:17 mean by a new creation?
2 Corinthians 5:17 says, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" It means the person in Christ is made new. The old life is no longer who they are.
Does becoming a new creation mean I will never struggle with sin?
No. Becoming a new creation does not mean you will never struggle with sin. Romans 6:4 says, "We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life." Romans 6:11 says, "In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus." The new life is real, and the fight with sin can still be real.
What is a good Bible verse about new creation?
2 Corinthians 5:17 (if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come), Galatians 6:15 (what counts is the new creation), and Ephesians 2:10 (created in Christ Jesus) are clear starting places.
How do Bible verses about new creation differ from renewal or eternal life?
The renewal page centers anakainōsis — mind and life made new. The eternal-life page centers zōē aiōnios. A new-creation page centers kainē ktisis — the new creature in Christ — then cross-links eternal-life, salvation, and renewal. See Bible verses about renewal.
What do kainos and ktisis mean?
Greek kainos (G2537) means new in kind or fresh. Greek ktisis (G2937) means creation or what is created. Together they name the new created reality of those in Christ.
Is new creation the same as "born again"?
John 3 speaks of being born again / born of the Spirit; Paul in 2 Corinthians 5 speaks of new creation in Christ. Both describe God's new work in a person — this page holds the kainē ktisis center and does not create a separate born-again hub. See Bible verses about the Holy Spirit.
Where can I read more about eternal life, salvation, and renewal?
Start with Bible verses about eternal life, then Bible verses about salvation, Bible verses about renewal, and Bible verses about faith.
