"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."

— Romans 12:2 (NIV)

People who search bible verses about renewal want Scripture on inward renewing — not only the broader hope list or the repentance list alone. This page is a numbered list of twelve passages with the NIV text and a short note on each. Related lists: Bible verses about hope, Bible verses about faith, Bible verses about repentance, Bible verses about the Holy Spirit, Bible verses about transformation, and Bible verse of the day. Renewal here means chadash / anakainōsis — God making the inner life new — distinct from first-time salvation alone or from vague optimism. The new creature in Christ is Bible verses about new creation.

Word study (lead theme). In Hebrew, "renew / make new" often uses חָדַשׁ chadash (Strong's H2318; Bible Hub H2318) — to renew, repair, make new. In Greek, "renewal" is ἀνακαίνωσις anakainōsis (Strong's G342; Bible Hub G342) — a renewal, a making new again; the related verb ἀνακαινόω anakainoō (Strong's G341; Bible Hub G341) means to renew or make new. Romans 12:2 centers the renewing of the mind; 2 Corinthians 4:16 the inward person being renewed day by day. Renewal is God's ongoing work within — not a self-help rebrand.

Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary on Romans 12 presses that believers must not be conformed to the world but transformed by the renewing of the mind unto God's will (Bible Hub MHC Romans 12; Blue Letter Bible, Matthew Henry on Romans 12). On 2 Corinthians 4 he marks the outward wasting and the inward renewing day by day as the Christian's paradox of grace (Bible Hub MHC 2 Corinthians 4; Blue Letter Bible, Matthew Henry on 2 Corinthians 4). (Hope and repentance lists live on those pages; this list centers anakainōsis itself.)

Questions people ask

What is a good Bible verse about renewal?

Romans 12:2 (renewing of your mind), 2 Corinthians 4:16 (inwardly renewed day by day), and Titus 3:5 (renewal by the Holy Spirit) are clear starting places.

How do Bible verses about renewal differ from hope or salvation?

The live hope and salvation pages can cover expectation and rescue broadly. A renewal page centers chadash / anakainōsis as inward making-new — then cross-links hope, faith, repentance, and the Holy Spirit. See Bible verses about hope.

What do chadash, anakainōsis, and anakainoō mean?

Hebrew chadash (H2318) means to renew or make new. Greek anakainōsis (G342) means renewal; anakainoō (G341) means to renew or make new again. Together they name God's renewing work in the inner life.

Is renewal only a one-time conversion moment?

Titus 3:5 ties renewal to the Spirit in salvation, and 2 Corinthians 4:16 says the inward person is being renewed day by day. Romans 12:2 calls for ongoing transformation of the mind. For the new birth itself (paliggenesia), see Bible verses about regeneration. See Bible verses about the Holy Spirit.
