"On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: king of kings and lord of lords."
— Revelation 19:16 (NIV)
People who search bible verses about Lord of Lords want Scripture on Christ's supreme lordship — kyrios kyriōn — not only the broader Jesus identity list or the worship bowing inventory alone. This page is a numbered list of twelve passages with the NIV text and a short note on each. Related lists: Bible verses about Jesus, Bible verses about worship, Bible verses about King of Kings, Bible verses about the bridegroom, Bible verses about the kingdom of God, Bible verses about mighty God, Bible verses about following Jesus, Bible verses about hope, Bible verses about faith, Bible verses about salvation, and Bible verse of the day. Lord of Lords here means Greek kyrios kyriōn — Lord over every lord — distinct from Jesus-as-person inventory alone or worship-as-praise inventory alone. The King of kings is also the foundation stone, the chief cornerstone. Deuteronomy 10:17 pairs Lord of lords with the God of gods, titles declaring God's supremacy.
Word study (lead theme). In Greek, "lord" is κύριος kyrios (Strong's G2962; Bible Hub G2962) — lord, master, owner, or the divine title. Revelation 19:16 pairs Lord of lords with King of kings; Deuteronomy 10:17 and Psalm 136:3 already name the Lord of lords in the Old Testament.
Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary on Revelation 19 presses the same throne-name — Lord of lords with King of kings (Bible Hub MHC Revelation 19; Blue Letter Bible, Matthew Henry on Revelation 19). On 1 Timothy 6 he marks the only Ruler as Lord of lords (Bible Hub MHC 1 Timothy 6; Blue Letter Bible, Matthew Henry on 1 Timothy 6). (Jesus and worship lists live on those pages; this list centers Lord of lords.)

What does Lord of lords mean?
Lord of lords is a Hebrew way of saying the greatest Lord over all others. It means the highest Lord, the one over every ruler.
Scripture first uses the title of God in Deuteronomy 10:17 and Psalm 136:3. It is given to the Lamb in Revelation 17:14 and to the rider on the white horse in Revelation 19:16. Paul uses it in 1 Timothy 6:15.
For trust and worship today, the title means you can rely on the Lord who stands over every other lord. Honor and thanks belong to him, not to any lesser ruler.
