"The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, 'We have found the Messiah' (that is, the Christ)."
— John 1:41 (NIV)
People who search bible verses about the Messiah want Scripture on the anointed / Christ title — Hebrew mashiach, Greek Messias — not only the personal-name Jesus inventory, the Son of God confession cluster, or Immanuel "God with us." This page is a numbered list of twelve passages with the NIV text and a short note on each. Related lists: Bible verses about Christ, Bible verses about Jesus, Bible verses about the Son of God, Bible verses about Immanuel, Bible verses about Son of David, Bible verses about Root of David, Bible verses about Lion of Judah, Bible verses about Redeemer, Bible verses about hope, Bible verses about faith, Bible verses about salvation, and Bible verse of the day. Messiah here means the Anointed One / Christ title — distinct from Jesus-as-personal-name lists and from Son-of-God or Immanuel pages. Acts 3:15 also calls the Messiah Jesus as the Author of Life. Isaiah's suffering servant is the subject of Man of Sorrows Bible verses. Isaiah 9:6's promise that a child is born is gathered in holy child Bible verses. The Messiah perfectly shows who God is, and that is what "exact imprint of God's nature" means. The Messiah's reign is the reign of the Lord of lords. The Messiah is the rejected stone made chief cornerstone. Among messianic titles, the Desire of All Nations names the One all nations long for.
Word study (lead theme). In Greek, "Messiah" appears as Μεσσίας Messias (Strong's G3323; Bible Hub G3323) — Messiah, the Christ. It corresponds to Hebrew מָשִׁיחַ mashiach (Strong's H4899; Bible Hub H4899) — anointed one. John 1:41 and John 4:25 use Messias and explain it as "the Christ"; the OT anointed-one language feeds the same title cluster.
Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary on Matthew 1 treats the genealogy and naming of Jesus as Messiah promised in the line of David (Bible Hub MHC Matthew 1; Blue Letter Bible, Matthew Henry on Matthew 1). (Jesus personal-name and Son-of-God confession lists live on those pages; this list centers mashiach / Messias as the anointed Christ title.)
What does Messiah mean?
Messiah means "anointed one" (Hebrew mashiach; Greek usually says Christ for the same title). The Old Testament promised a king God would anoint to save his people. Jesus is the one those promises point to.
Isaiah 9:6 says, "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." The promised child is a king, and the names are names of God.
Isaiah 53:5 says, "But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed." The promised one would suffer for his people, not only rule them.
Micah 5:2 says, "But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times." The ruler would come from Bethlehem.
In John 4:25 the woman says, "I know that Messiah" (called Christ) "is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us." In the next verse, John 4:26, Jesus tells her that he is the one speaking with her. Matthew 16:16 records Peter's answer: "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God."

How do Bible verses about the Messiah differ from Jesus or Son of God?
