"The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel" (which means "God with us").

— Matthew 1:23 (NIV)

People who search bible verses about Immanuel want Scripture on God with us — Isaiah's name fulfilled in Jesus — not only the incarnation Word-became-flesh inventory or the Jesus identity list alone. This page is a numbered list of twelve passages with the NIV text and a short note on each. Related lists: Bible verses about the incarnation, Bible verses about Jesus, Bible verses about gods love, Bible verses about hope, Bible verses about faith, Bible verses about heaven, Bible verses about worship, and Bible verse of the day. Immanuel here means Hebrew ʿimmānûʾēl — God with us — distinct from incarnation-as-doctrine inventory alone or Jesus-as-inventory alone. The Davidic royal title is Bible verses about Son of David.

Word study (lead theme). In Hebrew, Immanuel is עִמָּנוּאֵל ʿimmānûʾēl (Strong's H6005; Bible Hub H6005) — "with us is God." Isaiah 7:14 gives the name; Matthew 1:23 quotes it and explains "God with us." The theme runs through God's presence with his people — "I am with you," "never will I leave you," and the dwelling of God with humanity in the end.

Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary on Matthew 1 presses that Immanuel means God with us — God dwelling with us in our nature (Bible Hub MHC Matthew 1; Blue Letter Bible, Matthew Henry on Matthew 1). Isaiah 7's promise is read in that light (Bible Hub MHC Isaiah 7; Blue Letter Bible, Matthew Henry on Isaiah 7). (Incarnation and Jesus lists live on those pages; this list centers the Immanuel name and God-with-us promise.)
