Bible Verses About Spirit of Truth: 12

"the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you."

— John 14:17 (NIV)

People who search bible verses about Spirit of Truth want Scripture on Jesus' Upper Room title — pneuma tēs alētheias, the Spirit of truth in John 14:17, 15:26, and 16:13 — not only a general Comforter / Paraclete survey or a broad Holy Spirit gifts list alone. This page is a numbered list of twelve passages with the NIV text and a short note on each. Related lists: Bible verses about Comforter, Bible verses about the Holy Spirit, Bible verses about Advocate, Bible verses about Jesus, Bible verses about hope, Bible verses about faith, Bible verses about salvation, Bible verses about eternal life, Bible verses about God's love, and Bible verse of the day. Spirit of Truth here means the truth-bearing Spirit Jesus promises — distinct from Comforter or Holy-Spirit surveys alone.

Word study (lead theme). In Greek, "Spirit" is πνεῦμα pneuma (Strong's G4151; Bible Hub G4151) — spirit, wind, breath. "Truth" is ἀλήθεια alētheia (Strong's G225; Bible Hub G225) — truth, reality, verity. John 14:17, 15:26, and 16:13 join them: the Spirit of truth whom the world cannot accept, who proceeds from the Father and testifies about Jesus, who guides into all the truth. This list tracks that Upper Room title, not every Comforter or Holy-Spirit passage alone.

Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary on John 14 presses that the Spirit of truth would be with the disciples and in them, and that the world cannot receive him (Bible Hub MHC John 14; Blue Letter Bible, Matthew Henry on John 14). (Comforter and the Holy Spirit live on those pages; this list centers pneuma tēs alētheias.)
