"Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them."
— Hebrews 7:25 (NIV)
People who search bible verses about intercession want Scripture on pleading before God — not only the general prayer list. This page centers Christ and the Spirit who intercede, plus people who pray for others. Related lists: Bible verses about prayer, Bible verses about the intercessor, Bible verses about Jesus, Bible verses about the Holy Spirit, Bible verses about faith, and Bible verse of the day. Intercession here means entygchanō — approaching God on behalf of another — distinct from a broad how-to-pray catalog alone.
Word study (lead theme). In Greek, "intercede" / "make intercession" is often ἐντυγχάνω entygchanō (Strong's G1793; Bible Hub G1793) — to meet with, entreat, intercede. Romans 8:26–27 and 8:34 and Hebrews 7:25 use the word-family for the Spirit and for Christ. Isaiah 53:12 already says the Servant made intercession for the transgressors. Intercession is pleading for another — not self-focused wish lists alone.
Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary on Hebrews 7 presses Christ as the priest who ever lives to make intercession (Bible Hub MHC Hebrews 7; Blue Letter Bible, Matthew Henry on Hebrews 7). On Romans 8 he marks the Spirit helping our weakness with groanings, and Christ at God's right hand interceding (Bible Hub MHC Romans 8; Blue Letter Bible, Matthew Henry on Romans 8). (General prayer lists live on the prayer page; this list centers intercession.)
