Bible Verses About Light of Life: 12

"When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.'"

— John 8:12 (NIV)

People who search bible verses about the light of life want Scripture on phōs tēs zōēs — the light of life in John 8:12 — not only the broader light of the world title inventory, the Jesus overview, or eternal life list alone. This page is a numbered list of twelve passages with the NIV text and a short note on each. Related lists: Bible verses about light of the world, Bible verses about Jesus, Bible verses about eternal life, Bible verses about hope, Bible verses about faith, Bible verses about the morning star, Bible verses about the fountain of life, and Bible verse of the day. Light of life here means the life-giving light followers receive — distinct from light-of-the-world title lists or disciples-as-light lists alone.

Word study (lead theme). In Greek, "light" is φῶς phōs (Strong's G5457; Bible Hub G5457) — light, brightness. "Life" is ζωή zōē (Strong's G2222; Bible Hub G2222) — life, both physical and spiritual. John 8:12 promises followers "the light of life." This list tracks that light-of-life gift, not the whole light-of-the-world inventory.

Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary on John 8 treats Christ as the light of the world and the light of life for followers (Bible Hub MHC John 8; Blue Letter Bible, Matthew Henry on John 8). John 1 opens with life as the light of mankind (Bible Hub MHC John 1; Blue Letter Bible, Matthew Henry on John 1). (Light-of-the-world lists live on that page; this list centers Light of Life.)
