"If you love me, keep my commands."
— John 14:15 (NIV)
People who search bible verses about obedience want Scripture for loving response — not cold rule-keeping, hearing that becomes doing, and love that keeps Christ's commands. This page is a numbered list of fifteen passages with the NIV text and a short note on each. The wider essay sits under Love and obedience. Related lists: Bible verses about God's love, Bible verses about love, Bible verses about humility, and Bible verses about trust. Obedience here is love's response to Christ — not legalism, and closely tied to Bible verses about God's love. Obedience is doing what God wants; see Bible verses about God's will. Noah did all God commanded; see Bible verses about Noah. Obedience starts with hearing; see listening.
Word study (lead verse). In John 14:15 the fruit of love is hypakoē-shaped keeping — Greek ὑπακοή hypakoē (Strong's G5218): hearing-under, attentive obedience that answers a word with action. Old Testament near-kin is Hebrew שָׁמַע shama (Strong's H8085) — to hear / listen / obey. See also Bible Hub G5218.
Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary on John 14 presses love as the root of keeping: "Having Christ's commands, we must keep them. And having them in our heads, we must keep them in our hearts and lives. The surest evidence of our love to Christ is, obedience to the laws of Christ… Where sincere love to Christ is in the heart, there will be obedience" (Bible Hub MHC John 14; also Blue Letter Bible, Matthew Henry on John 14).

15 Bible verses about obedience
John 14:15. "If you love me, keep my commands." Obedience is love's evidence, not a substitute for love. See Love and obedience.
1 Samuel 15:22. "But Samuel replied: 'Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice…'" Ritual without obedience misses God's delight. See Bible verses about sacrifice.
Deuteronomy 11:1. "Love the Lord your God and keep his requirements, his decrees, his laws and his commands always." Love and keeping belong in one sentence.
Romans 6:16. "Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?" Everyone obeys someone — the question is whom.
Hebrews 5:8-9. "Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him." Christ obeyed unto suffering — then became the source of salvation.
James 1:22. "Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says." Hearing without doing is self-deception.
Acts 5:29. "Peter and the other apostles replied: 'We must obey God rather than human beings!'" When commands collide, God comes first.
John 14:21. "Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them." Keeping and love run both ways — and Christ shows himself to keepers. See Bible verses about God's love.
1 John 5:3. "In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome." Love for God looks like keeping — and the load is not crushing.
Matthew 7:21. "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven." Saying "Lord" is not the same as doing the Father's will.
Luke 11:28. "He replied, 'Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.'" Blessing lands on hearers who obey.
Joshua 1:8. "Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it…" Careful doing grows out of constant meditation.
Romans 1:5. "Through him we received grace and apostleship to call all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith for his name's sake." Gospel obedience comes from faith, not from earning.
Philippians 2:8. "And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!" The cross is obedience. See Bible verses about humility.
1 John 2:3-5. "We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands… But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them." Knowing Christ shows as keeping — and love is completed in obedience. See Love and obedience and Romans 5:8.
How to use these verses
Pick one verse for a delayed "yes," a habit of hearing without doing, or a fear that obedience means legalism — not fifteen. Read it out loud. If you need the love-keeps-commands line, start with John 14:15. If you need obedience-better-than-sacrifice, start with 1 Samuel 15:22. If you need the essay that frames obedience inside love, read Love and obedience. For God's love as the related root, see Bible verses about God's love. For yielding your will to God, see Bible verses about surrender. For a daily verse, open Bible verse of the day.
