"Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?"
— Hebrews 1:14 (NIV)
People who search bible verses about angels want Scripture for God's messengers — not fantasy wings, servants who speak, protect, and worship under Christ's lordship. This page is a numbered list of fifteen passages with the NIV text and a short note on each. Related lists: Love and eternal life, Love and heaven, Bible verses about heaven, Bible verses about hope, Bible verses about salvation, and Bible verses about God's love. Angels here are messengers and ministers — distinct from the destination focus in Bible verses about heaven and the everlasting-life focus in Love and eternal life. There is no separate love-and-angels essay; eternity-adjacent care and the heirs of salvation frame this list.
Word study (lead theme). In the New Testament, "angel" is Greek ἄγγελος angelos (Strong's G32) — messenger, envoy, angel. See also Bible Hub G32. In Hebrew, מַלְאָךְ malʾak (Strong's H4397; Bible Hub H4397) means messenger — human or heavenly — sent with a word or task from God.
Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary on Hebrews 1:4-14 sets the office clearly: "Here is the office of the angels; they are God's ministers or servants, to do his pleasure" (Bible Hub commentaries on Hebrews 1:14; fuller MHC at Bible Hub MHC Hebrews 1). He adds their service to believers: "The most exalted angels are but ministering spirits, mere servants of Christ, to execute his commands… The angels minister to them in opposing the malice and power of evil spirits, in protecting and keeping their bodies, instructing and comforting their souls, under Christ and the Holy Ghost" (same MHC Hebrews 1). On Psalm 91 the charge is protective: angels are given charge "to keep thee in all thy ways" (Bible Hub commentaries on Psalm 91:11; Bible Hub MHC Psalm 91).

Psalm 91:11-12. "For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone." Guarding is God's command through angels — not a charm we control.

Matthew 28:5-6. "The angel said to the women, 'Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said…'" Angels announce resurrection, not superstition.

2 Kings 6:16-17. "'Don't be afraid,' the prophet answered. 'Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.' And Elisha prayed, 'Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.' Then the Lord opened the servant's eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha." Unseen hosts outnumber visible threats. See Bible verses about hope.
Matthew 4:11. "Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him." After temptation, angels serve the Son.
Revelation 5:11-12. "Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands… In a loud voice they were saying: 'Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain…'" Angels worship the Lamb — they do not take his throne. See Love and heaven and Love and eternal life.
How to use these verses
Pick one verse for a night you feel unprotected, a wonder about the unseen, or a week when heaven feels far — not fifteen. Read it out loud. If you need their office clarified, start with Hebrews 1:14. If you need guarding under God's command, start with Psalm 91:11-12. Angels are messengers and ministers, not the destination — for that place of God's presence, see Bible verses about heaven and Love and heaven. For everlasting life with God, see Love and eternal life. For the six-winged throne-seraphim of Isaiah 6, open Bible verses about seraphim. For a daily verse, open Bible verse of the day.
Questions people ask
What is a good Bible verse about angels?
Hebrews 1:14 is the classic: ministering spirits sent to serve the heirs of salvation. Psalm 91:11-12 speaks of angels charged to guard. Luke 2:10-11 shows angels announcing the Savior.
What does the Bible say angels do?
They deliver messages (Luke 1–2), protect and deliver (Psalm 34:7; Acts 12:7), worship the Lamb (Revelation 5:11-12), and serve those who inherit salvation (Hebrews 1:14). Henry: they are God's ministers to do his pleasure — under Christ, not instead of him.
How are angels different from heaven?
Angels are messengers and servants. Heaven is the place and hope of God's presence. See Bible verses about heaven and Love and heaven. Do not merge the two topics into one page.
Should I worship angels?
No. Hebrews 1 puts angels under the Son; Revelation 5 shows angels worshiping the Lamb. Honor their ministry; worship God alone.
Where should I read next?
