"And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy."

— Colossians 1:18 (NIV)

People who search bible verses about the firstborn want Scripture on prōtotokos — firstborn over creation, from the dead, and among many brothers — not only the firstfruits harvest-offering list alone or the Son of God title inventory alone. This page is a numbered list of twelve passages with the NIV text and a short note on each. Related lists: Bible verses about firstfruits, Bible verses about the Son of God, Bible verses about Jesus, Bible verses about resurrection, Bible verses about salvation, Bible verses about hope, Bible verses about the church, and Bible verse of the day. Firstborn here means priority, inheritance, and supremacy in Christ — distinct from firstfruits as the first portion of a harvest.

Word study (lead theme). In Greek, "firstborn" in Colossians 1:18 and Romans 8:29 is πρωτότοκος prōtotokos (Strong's G4416; Bible Hub G4416) — firstborn, first-begotten. This list centers Christ's firstborn place and the church of the firstborn, not only agricultural firstfruits.

Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary on Hebrews 1 presses the Son brought as firstborn into the world and the worship due him (Bible Hub MHC Hebrews 1; Blue Letter Bible, Matthew Henry on Hebrews 1). (Firstfruits and Son-of-God inventories live on those pages; this list centers prōtotokos.)
