Bible Verses About Abba Father: 12

""Abba, Father," he said, "everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.""

— Mark 14:36 (NIV)

People who search bible verses about Abba Father want Scripture on the Aramaic-Greek cry Abba, Father — Jesus in Gethsemane and the Spirit's adoption cry in Paul — not only the Father of mercies compassion title alone. This page is a numbered list of twelve passages with the NIV text and a short note on each. Related lists: Bible verses about Father of Mercies, Bible verses about Father of Lights, Bible verses about God's love, Bible verses about Jesus, Bible verses about Christ, Bible verses about hope, Bible verses about faith, Bible verses about worship, Bible verses about salvation, Bible verses about the living God, and Bible verse of the day. Abba Father here means the Abba / patēr cry — distinct from Father of mercies / Father of lights inventories alone.

Word study (lead theme). In Greek (and the Aramaic loanword), Ἀββᾶ abba (Strong's G5; Bible Hub G5) is Abba — an intimate address for father; πατήρ patēr (Strong's G3962; Bible Hub G3962) is father. Mark 14:36, Romans 8:15, and Galatians 4:6 join them — Abba, Father. This list tracks that cry and related Spirit-of-adoption / children-of-God speech, not oiktirmos Father-of-mercies inventory (those twelve stay on father-of-mercies).

Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary on Mark 14 presses Christ's prayer in the garden — Abba, Father, all things are possible to thee (Bible Hub MHC Mark 14; Blue Letter Bible, Matthew Henry on Mark 14). On Romans 8 and Galatians 4 he presses the Spirit of adoption whereby we cry, Abba, Father (Bible Hub MHC Romans 8; Blue Letter Bible, Matthew Henry on Romans 8; Bible Hub MHC Galatians 4; Blue Letter Bible, Matthew Henry on Galatians 4). (Father of mercies lives on that page; this list centers Abba, Father.)
