"I wish that all of you were as I am. But each of you has your own gift from God; one has this gift, another has that."
— 1 Corinthians 7:7 (NIV)
People who search bible verses about singleness want Scripture for life unmarried — not only dating tips or a waiting-room until marriage. This page is a numbered list of fourteen passages with the NIV text and a short note on each. The wider essay sits under Love and singleness. Related lists: Bible verses about marriage, Bible verses for marriage, Bible verses about friendship, Bible verses about contentment, and Bible verses about purity. Singleness here is vocation and undivided devotion — distinct from the marriage covenant list and the friendship loyalty list.
Word study (lead theme). In Greek, "unmarried" in 1 Corinthians 7 often uses ἄγαμος agamos (Strong's G22; Bible Hub G22) — unmarried, single. Paul treats it as a gift alongside marriage, not a defect. The call is undivided concern for the Lord's affairs (1 Corinthians 7:32-35), not a lesser love.
Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary on 1 Corinthians 7 presses that both marriage and singleness are gifts, and that the unmarried can attend on the Lord without distraction when that is their call (Bible Hub commentaries on 1 Corinthians 7:8; Bible Hub MHC 1 Corinthians 7; Blue Letter Bible, Matthew Henry on 1 Corinthians 7).

14 Bible verses about singleness
1 Corinthians 7:7. "I wish that all of you were as I am. But each of you has your own gift from God; one has this gift, another has that." Singleness and marriage are both gifts — not a ranking of worth. See Love and singleness.
1 Corinthians 7:8. "Now to the unmarried and the widows I say: It is good for them to stay unmarried, as I do." Paul names unmarried life as good, not merely tolerable.
1 Corinthians 7:26. "Because of the present crisis, I think that it is good for a man to remain as he is." Remaining unmarried can be the faithful response to the season you are in.
1 Corinthians 7:27. "Are you pledged to a woman? Do not seek to be released. Are you free from such a commitment? Do not look for a wife." Freedom from a marriage pledge is not a problem you are required to solve.
Matthew 19:11. "Not everyone can accept this word, but only those to whom it has been given." The path that forgoes marriage is given, not imposed on every disciple.
Matthew 19:12. "For there are eunuchs who were born that way, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by others—and there are those who choose to live like eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it." Some forgo marriage for the kingdom — a recognized path.
Isaiah 56:3-5. "Let no foreigner who is bound to the Lord say, 'The Lord will surely exclude me from his people.' And let no eunuch complain, 'I am only a dry tree.' For this is what the Lord says: 'To the eunuchs who keep my Sabbaths, who choose what pleases me and hold fast to my covenant—to them I will give within my temple and its walls a memorial and a name better than sons and daughters…'" God gives a lasting name beyond family lines. See Bible verses about hope.
1 Corinthians 7:17. "Nevertheless, each person should live as a believer in whatever situation the Lord has assigned to them, just as God has called them. This is the rule I lay down in all the churches." The assignment is to live the situation God called you into, including unmarried life. See Bible verses about contentment.
1 Thessalonians 4:4. "that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable." Holiness and self-control belong to unmarried life, not only married. See Bible verses about purity and Bible verses about self-control.
Psalm 68:6. "God sets the lonely in families, he leads out the prisoners with singing…" God places the lonely in belonging — church family included. See Bible verses about the church and Bible verses about friendship.
Ruth 1:16-17. "Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried…" Covenant loyalty is not only marital — Ruth's bond with Naomi shows steadfast belonging. See Bible verses about loyalty.
Acts 21:9. "He had four unmarried daughters who prophesied." Singleness and a public ministry can stand together. Philip's daughters are named for their prophecy, not for a missing wedding.
1 Timothy 5:5. "The widow who is really in need and left all alone puts her hope in God and continues night and day to pray and to ask God for help." Alone seasons can become prayer-deep hope in God. See Bible verses about prayer.
Isaiah 54:5. "For your Maker is your husband—the Lord Almighty is his name—the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; he is called the God of all the earth." When marriage is not this season's story, God names himself husband and Redeemer. See Bible verses about trust.
How to use these verses

Questions people ask
What is a good Bible verse about singleness?
1 Corinthians 7:7-8 (gift and "it is good"), 1 Corinthians 7:26-27 (remain as you are), and Isaiah 54:5 (your Maker is your husband) are clear starting places.
Does the Bible say singleness is better than marriage?
Paul wishes others were as he is and calls both gifts (1 Corinthians 7:7). He also honors marriage. The point is calling and devotion, not a scoreboard. See Love and singleness.
How is singleness different from loneliness or waiting for marriage?
Singleness can be a present gift of undivided devotion; loneliness is a need for belonging God often meets in friendship and church; waiting for marriage is one story among others. Link Bible verses about friendship and Bible verses about contentment.
What Bible verse helps when everyone around you is marrying?
Isaiah 56:3-5, Psalm 68:6, and 1 Corinthians 7:17. God gives a name, places the lonely in families, and assigns you to live the calling you have — not envy.
