"For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
— Mark 10:45 (NIV)
People who search bible verses about serving others want Scripture for hands-on love — not status, greatness that washes feet, and work that puts neighbors first. This page is a numbered list of fifteen passages with the NIV text and a short note on each. The wider essay sits under Love and service. Related lists: Bible verses about sacrifice, Bible verses about loving others, Bible verses about loving your neighbor, and Love and humility. Serving here is everyday ministry — distinct from the costly self-offering focus in Bible verses about sacrifice. Belonging to Christ as his doulos is Bible verses about servanthood. Serving others is love in action, which is what 1 John 3:18 calls love in deed and in truth. Service grows from compassion, so these passages belong with Bible verses about compassion.
Word study (lead verse). In Mark 10:45 Jesus says he came diakoneō — to serve / wait on — from Greek διακονέω (Strong's G1247): practical service, not a throne-first agenda; the Son of Man came to serve and to give his life. See also Bible Hub G1247.
Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary on Mark 10:32-45 warns how easily disciples chase glitter: "Worldly honour is a glittering thing, with which the eyes of Christ's own disciples have many times been dazzled" (Bible Hub commentaries on Mark 10:45; fuller MHC on the chapter at Blue Letter Bible, Matthew Henry on Mark 10 and Bible Hub MHC Mark 10).
